First Aid Response (FAR) 3 Day Course

Would you like to gain a Nationally Recognised qualification, learn skills that you can use in the workplace, in the home, on the farm or on the Sports field?
From 1st September 2017 PHECC Certified First Aid Response (FAR) replaced Occupational First Aid as the Industry requirement for First Aid in the Workplace and is now the required standard by the Health & Safety Authority (HSA), and also meets the requirements of TUSLA for work in the Childcare industry.
This Course running over 3 days is designed to provide you with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide First Aid in the workplace in Compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Regulations 2007.
What will you learn on this course ?
- You will understand the role of the First Aid Responder in the continuum of care.
- You will learn how to assess a casualty’s condition and make a decision regarding referral for further medical assessment.
- You will learn how to assess and treat common medical conditions, and trauma related injuries including sports related injuries, burns, bleeds and breaks.
- You will learn how to deliver quality cpr to an adult, child and infant and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- You will learn how to assess and treat respiratory related ailments and deal with a choking casualty.
- You will learn how to assess and treat an unconscious casualty.
- Most importantly ; Having completed this programme you will leave competent in the skills of First Aid Provision in the event of an emergency.
The next First Aid Response (FAR) Recertification course will run November 20th/21st.

Assessment Process
This programme is assessed in two ways :
Theory Examination
This will consist of a 20 Question Multiple Choice Assessment derived by the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council, with questions taken across all units of the course.
A minimum Pass Mark of 60% (12/20) must be achieved in order to Pass this component.
Skills Assessment
This will consist of 5 separate practical skills based on the learning outcomes.
A minimum Pass Mark of 60% overall must be achieved in order to Pass this component.
PHECC Approved Training Provider
Maltings Training is a Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council Approved Institution. This means we can deliver PHECC Approved Programmes and Certification directly to the end user rather than have to go through a third party organization. We are based in Portlaoise, Co,. Laois and we deliver training Nationwide.
Duration : A Full FAR Programme is 3 Days in duration / 24 hours.
e learning : Participants can initially complete our on-line component in First Aid Response, which they can do at their own pace. Learners receive access to on-line course materials via our elearning platform, and the relevant sections have all necessary materials, a downloadable learner course manual and a Quiz to be completed at the end. On completion of this element they will be able to print off a First Aid Response Certificate of Completion.
All material is self -directed with on-line tutor support. All lectures have audio voice overs to
enhance the learning process, backed up by video and additional learning resources.
Upon completion of the on-line component learners can then attend our Practical Skills Training days in order to achieve their PHECC FAR Certificate also. As a PHECC Approved RI, we have direct access to the PHECC Certification Portal where-by certificates are processed and issued electronically directly to the learner in real time therefore there is no delay in the certification process.
Practical Skills Training can be delivered on-site at your location particularly for your staff, or if it suits your scheduling roster better participants can attend one of our public programmes.
A FAR Recertification (Refresher) Programme is 2 Days in duration / 16 hours and needs to be undertaken every 2 years. This is currently delivered as two days Practical Skills Training in a face to face setting.
