Advanced Resistance Training
Do you think you know exercises ? This course will make you think again.
Are you ;
- Eager to learn more about the applications of Resistance Training.
- Interested in learning the effects of resistance load on the human body ?
- Constantly striving to increase your knowledge base ?
- Willing to challenge yourself and change old motor patterns ?
- Ever wondering if you are teaching an exercise correctly ?
- What happens if we change the technique slightly, how does this effect the muscles, joints etc ?
- Do you want to develop more advanced and creative programmes for your clients ?
The difference between an excellent and an average trainer is their ownership of knowledge and their ability to apply this information to best achieve the goals of their client. Exercise is not a “one size fits all” concept, and not everybody needs to do a Bench Press !
So many gyms are full of clients who all do the same bank of exercises, because that’s what they’ve been taught to do. Not every piece of equipment in the gym is suited to every client, in fact many are very poorly designed yet advertised as “state of the art equipment”.
Traditionally we have been taught how to train Body Parts and Muscle groups on conventional gym instructor and Personal Training courses. The aim of this course is to create an understanding of the key concepts of Human Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology and mechanics, and how these are applied to the teaching of Resistance Training exercises, and the structuring of advanced programmes. Thus, to provide trainers with the necessary knowledge to make an educated choice as to the most appropriate exercise for use in a given set of circumstances. The aim therefore is to train the motions available to the human body as opposed to specific muscles.
e learning : The programme will be provided using a Blended Learning Approach.
Participants initially complete our on-line component in Advanced Resistance Training which they can do at their own pace. They will receive access to on-line course materials via our elearning platform, and the relevant sections will have all necessary materials and a Quiz to be completed at the end. On completion of this element they will be able to print off an Advanced Resistance Training Certificate of Completion. All material is self -directed with on-line tutor support. All lectures have audio voice overs to enhance the learning process, backed up by video and additional learning resources.
Upon completion of the on-line component learners can then attend our Practical Skills Days where the information learned will be applied in the practical setting.
Practical Skills Training can be delivered on-site at your location particularly for your group, or if it suits your scheduling roster better participants can attend one of our public programmes.
Assessment Process
This programme is assessed in two ways :
Theory Examination
Completed on-line.
A minimum Pass Mark of 60% must be achieved in order to Pass this component.
Skills Assessment
This will consist of a demonstration of practical skills based on the learning outcomes.
A minimum Pass Mark of 60% overall must be achieved in order to Pass this component.
What Will You Learn on This Course?
- You will learn in-depth information on the principles of exercise biomechanics and how to apply this to the structure of exercise programmes for your clients.
- You will learn how to identify if an exercise is contra-indicated or high risk in a given set of circumstances.
- You will learn how to innovate and provide exercise variety and overload for your client with minimal equipment.
- You will learn how to apply resistance load to best train human motions instead of simply muscles.
- You will learn detailed exercise technique which will challenge what you have always believed about various exercises.
- You will learn how to choose the most effective set of exercises appropriate to the specific goal of the client.
- Most importantly ; Having completed this programme you will own the information and you will be competent in your ability to design effective exercise programmes that train the motions necessary for human movement not simply the muscles.
